‘Undercover’ is a Belgian/Dutch collaboration that’s been written by Nico Molenaar, who also functions as the showrunner. The narrative is motivated by true events which made headlines in papers. The show is a rough sketch of what the life of a man who’s the largest provider of ecstasy on the planet looks like.
Eshref Reybrouck and Frank Devos direct the show. Netflix functions as the first supplier globally, but in France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, and Switzerland, where the local broadcasters atmosphere it weekly. ‘Undercover’ season 1 premiered on May 3, 2019, on Netflix, preceded by its launch from Belgium on Een on February 24, 2019. Considering the overall success of this crime genre, it was always a certainty which the show would return for another season. ‘Undercover’ Season 2 will release on September 6, 2020, on Netflix.
Undercover Season 2 Cast
At the middle of the narrative is Ferry Bouman, the drug kingpin who becomes the focal point of this undercover operation performed by the law enforcement agencies. Frank Lammers portrays the role of Bouman with all the seriousness which reminds one of Pablo Escobar and Tony Soprano.
Elisa Schaap plays the part of Danielle Bouman, Ferry’s spouse, who becomes an important instrument for the undercover agents to acquire the confidence of her husband. The function of the undercover agents is performed with Tom Waes and Anna Drijver. Waes’ character is named Bob Lemmens. Bob is the very best at his job, but even all that experience has not prepared him for what he encounters in the pursuit of taking down Ferry Bouman.
Lemmens’ partner in crime is Kim De Rooij (Drijver), who develops a solid connection with Danielle, which eventually lands her in a precarious situation. The supporting cast includes names such as Raymond Thiry and Huub Smit. Season 2 sees the whole lead cast making a comeback.
Undercover Season 2 Plot:
A truly addictive narrative,’Undercover’ follows two undercover agents attempting to bring down one of the biggest names in the realm of drugs. Ferry Bouman principles the planet in regards to selling and producing bliss. As with any other drug lord, he’s made enough money to feed his next seven generations. But unlike his counterparts, he doesn’t indulge in too much luxury. He resides in a campsite at the Belgian-Dutch border together with his wife. But do not take his small living to believe that he is not ambitious.
Business is flourishing, and his time in the profession has taught Bouman to adhere by a few rules that have kept him going for all these years. This has also made him an elusive target for government agencies. His cautiousness has been demonstrated to be the biggest obstacle in their path to get their hands on him. To be able to win the game, you need to change the rules, and that’s where Bob and Kim come in. Experienced undercover agents, they are tasked to present as a couple and eventually become acquaintances to Ferry, to forge a relationship with him. The only way to carry him out is by becoming a part of his lifetime. They know that he won’t trust them so readily, so they aim his wife, Danielle, who’s a warmer person and easier to get through to.
As the plot moves forward, the agents get closer to attaining their goal. With every incident, the suspense raises, and the crime drama gives you a slow burn which isn’t easy to forego, days after you’ve finished watching it. Season 2 picks up the story less than a year after the events of year 1. Kim works at Human Rights and pairs up with Bob to explore the illegal arms trade in Syria. This leads the duo to the El Dorado Ranch, situated in the Belgium flatlands. Bob goes undercover and follows the arms-dealing Berger brothers. Meanwhile, Ferry continues his hunt for the agents who had detained him.
