REDDING, Calif. – Redding local, Gloria Kimbwala, has kicked off a campaign which focuses on putting Anti-Racism Literature into all three branches of the Shasta County libraries.
After recent protests across the country, Kimbwala decided she wanted to take steps towards change in where she lives.

“Books are away to move people internally,” said Kimbwala. “It started with George Floyd and it was more of like what can I do that will have a lasting effect.”
That’s when Kimbwala got the idea, to create a Read Against Racism collection in the Shasta Public Libraries.
Kimbwala and the Shasta Library Foundation teamed up together to raise the funds. Within 48 hours, Kimbwala raised over 5000-dollars, which will go towards creating a permanent anti-racism collection in at the Redding, Anderson, and Burney libraries.
“The ultimate goal is to get all of the books that we can on this topic,” said Jennifer Snider, the executive Director of the Shasta Library Foundation.
The Read Against Racism collection is catered for people of all ages.
“Our community wants this change and they want solutions,” said Kimbwala.
“I always say that I have faith rather than fear and I can either be afraid of people’s racism and how it affects me or directly or have faith in my community that they’re willing to do the work.”
