This weekend marks the observance of the United Nations’ “International Day of the Girl.”
Isha Uppalapati is a senior at Marietta’s Walton High School who has written a 45-page book called, “Her Toolbox: Learning to be a Female Leader with Advice from Women in Power.” She also founded the nonprofit, A Girl‘s Frontier.
When creating the book, Uppalapati wanted to gather interviews from a diverse group of women in all different job occupations. Here is the list of women who were interviewed for the book:
- Freda Lyon, vice president for Emergency Services at Wellstar Health System
- Anne Russell Bazzel, vice president of the investment management division at Goldman Sachs.
- Melissa Rhodes, a pulmonary critical care doctor who built a private practice with multiple doctors
- Jana Kolarik, a partner and attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP.
- Jill Rowley, a limited partner and fund adviser at Stage 2 Capital
- Philippa Ellis, the assistant general counsel at the Home Depot. She is also the co-founder of an Atlanta law firm.
- Shyroll Morris, the vice president of Oncology and Gastroenterology at Wellstar Health System
“This book is a foundation for young women to take these pieces of advice and to incorporate into their lives as they move their careers,” said Uppalapati.
In honor of the International Day of the Girl on Sunday, Oct. 11, Uppalapati will host a live online Q&A with the women featured in the book. It will begin at 4:30 pm.
