BERNARDSTON — Cushman Library at 28 Church St. is hosting biweekly “Pop-Up New Shelf” events for readers to explore new titles.
The events are being held each Wednesday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., weather permitting. According to a Cushman Library press release, staff will roll three carts of books that are new to the library’s collection — including adult fiction and non-fiction, mysteries, fantasy, science fiction, large print, and young adult and assorted juvenile offerings — out onto the patio by the pond.
Patrons can peruse the outdoor shelves and, when they are ready to check out items, walk over to the “creamie window,” as Cushman Library Director Karen Stinchfield likes to call it, and hand the items through to a staff member sitting at the circulation desk inside. Stinchfield said she also ordered lollipops and dog biscuits to hand out to patrons who want a treat for themselves or their canine companions.
These events will continue throughout the summer, according to the release. The patio furniture will soon be put in place so that visitors can enjoy their books in a picturesque setting. Everyone who visits is asked to wear a mask when appropriate and be cognizant of the distance between themselves and others.
Cushman Library also continues to offer contactless curbside pick-up, as it has been doing since June 2020. Patrons may request items by visiting cwmars.org, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 413-648-5402. Patrons can pick up their items at the front entrance by appointment or during the “Pop-Up New Shelf” events, and can return them to the exterior bin at any time.
