Without books life is impossible. Books are our best friends, guiders and philosophers. Every person connects to the books from birth. They share our pain and direct us to lead the future with confidence.

Books take us the places; we are never seen, that height which we never feel, and at the land which we never imagine.

Whenever you are in stress, confused, nervous, and negative just open a book. You will find relief because reading books is a natural therapy to reduce stress and balance our thought process. Books bring light into darkness and the sunshine into shadow.

Avi Salmon once said, “Book is the best friend, have no demand, no complain.”

Books help us to become a better human being and also teach us how to serve the society in the best possible way. To mark the importance of book every year World Book Day is celebrated.

World Book Day is celebrated by UNESCO on April 23 every year. April 23 is a symbolic date for world literature because on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. Hence, to pay tribute to the great literary figures the day was selected.

World Book Day 2020: Theme

Each year, UNESCO and the international organizations representing select the World Book Capital for a one-year period, effective 23 April each year.

As per UNESCO, this year the city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia was selected as the World Book Capital for 2020 because of the strong focus on inclusive education, the development of a knowledge-based society and accessible reading for all parts of the city’s population, with the slogan “KL Baca – caring through reading”.

The program focuses on four themes:

  • Reading in all its forms
  • Development of the book industry infrastructure
  • Inclusiveness and digital accessibility
  • Empowerment of children through reading

World Book Day 2020: Celebration

Every year on numerous events are held on this day but this year due to the widespread COVID-19 Virus, most educational institutions are closed for the safety of their students, teachers, and staff.

People spending time at home can download a good book through the internet and read positive books and gaining knowledge.

According to UNESCO, “Books: A Window into the World during COVID-19.”

On this World Book and Copyright Day 2020, celebrate the importance of reading, foster children’s growth as readers, and promote a lifelong love of literature and integration into the world of work.

Books are a great source of information to the world. On this World Book Day here are some famous quotes by literary geniuses.

Hence, April 23 is the day for all the book lovers and bookworms, as the world celebrates ‘World Book Day or World Book and Copyright Day’.

World Book Day 2020: History

In 1995, UNESCO decided to celebrate April 23 as the World Book Day’ or World Book and Copyright Day’, since then the date has prominence in the history of literature.

April 23 marks the death and birth anniversary of many other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. Therefore, it became obvious for the UNESCO to choose April 23 to celebrate World Book Day’ worldwide.
